Oct 3 – Queer* Beginners DJ Workshop

Thursday 3 Oct
ANU Union Bar
2-4:30pm

Facebook Event

For the first time at ANU, we’re running a Queer* beginners DJ workshop. The workshop will be at ANU Union bar.

This workshop is friendly to beginners. You don’t need any previous music or equipment knowledge to participate, just a love for sweet tunes and drowning out homophobia.

The workshop will kick off in with some Canberra-based DJ friends sharing the basics of DJing: what the buttons do, how to mix tracks together, how to beat-match and so on. Following that, you’ll get a chance to practice what you’ve just learnt in a friendly environment with the support of the DJs.

The workshop will finish with a panel discussion on topics like organising your music, getting started with your first gigs, fair pay and engaging with the music landscape.

Food and snackies will be provided! When you’re registering, you can indicate any dietary requirements you have.

This workshop includes a series of follow up practice sessions at ANU Union Bar, Woroni Radio and other exciting venues. Although they aren’t compulsory, you’ll get the most out of this workshop if you’re able to commit to at least one hour of these sessions. Sign-up for them will open during the workshop.

Spaces are limited so if you sign up please make sure you can commit to attending!

We acknowledge the traditional owners of the land on which this event takes place, the Ngunnawal and Ngambri peoples. We pay our respects to Elders past present and emerging, and recognise that sovereignty was never ceded.

You do not need to prepare anything or bring anything for the workshop. However, if you’d like to experiment with music of your choice, bring a USB with your songs loaded onto it using the free program Rekordbox. Here’s a quick tutorial on how to do that.

This is an autonomous event, open to any student who identifies as Queer* or LGBTQIA+.

Dietary requirements can be made known during registration. The event takes place at the ANU Union bar in the ANU Union building, which is accessible by wheelchair. Chairs can be provided during the event. Accessible parking spaces are near toad hall.
