Feb 21 – ANU O-Week Beginners DJ Workshop

Friday Feb 21
Ambush Gallery

Session 1:
1:00-2:30 pm
Session 2:
2:30-4 pm

Facebook Event

Welcome to ANU! This event is part of the ANU Student Association’s O-Week program. We’re so excited to meet you.

This free DJ workshop is intended for beginners. You don’t need any previous music or equipment knowledge to participate! It’s also open to anyone looking to practice mixing and make new DJ friends in a friendly environment.

The workshop will kick off with Canberra-based DJ friends sharing the basics of DJing: what the buttons do, how to mix tracks together, how to beat-match and so on. Following that, you’ll get a chance to play around what you’ve just learnt. The workshop will finish with a casual panel discussion on topics like organising your music, the Canberra music scene and where to borrow gear.

We acknowledge the traditional owners of the land on which this event takes place, the Ngunnawal and Ngambri peoples. We pay our respects to Elders past present and emerging, and recognise that sovereignty was never ceded.

You do not need to prepare anything or bring anything for the workshop. However, if you’d like to experiment with music of your choice, bring a USB with your songs loaded onto it using the free program Rekordbox. Here’s a quick tutorial on how to do that.

Extract from Evelyn Araluen

Decolonial poetics (avant gubba)

Vessel would like to acknowledge that witchcraft, dark magic and occult are concepts that have been used and continue to be used as an oppressive tool to diminish and demonise the voice of women, particularly indigenous women and women of colour and queer people.

We would like to pay our respects to the people who have come before us. We would like to be a vessel in the reclaiming of feminine and queer power through this stellar line up.
